UPDATE: Victim named in fatal Davenport shooting | Crime
Davenport, Florida -- UPDATE: Polk County sheriff's deputies have named the man killed in Monday's brutal home invasion off Forest Drive.
Officials say 30-year-old Jesse Allen Shivers was shot after two armed, Hispanic men forced their way into the home and demanded to see one of the people inside.
The suspects reportedly began arguing with Shivers, and 26-year-old Christina Assad, who was also in the home, before one pulled out a gun and threatened them.
Despite Assad's warning of calling police, the argument intensified, and one of the men shot Shivers.
Shivers reportedly died at the scene. Officials say no one else was harmed.
They do not believe this was a random act, and their investigation is still on-going.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd will be holding a press conference shortly in reference to a fatal shooting at a Davenport home Monday afternoon.
So far, the sheriff's office says the shooting occurred around 1:09 p.m. at home on Forest Drive. Investigators say two men forced their way into the home and began struggling with the victim. During the struggle, the man was shot and the two men fled the scene.
The identity of the man killed has not been released at this time.
