2 arrested for hiding missing teen

Winter Haven, Florida -- Winter Haven Police have arrested the cousin of 15-year-old Kaleb Deckard and his girlfriend for helping Deckard run away on March 5.

According to police, Kaleb told detectives on March 4 he called his cousin, 18-year-old Taron Todd, and negotiated a deal that if he paid him $325 a month he could live with him and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Krista Walters.

Walters picked up Kaleb after school on March 5. Later that day, Todd took him to an orange grove off Transport Road in Bartow and told him "lay low" for a while because the police would probably come to his house looking for him.

Kaleb told police he stayed in the grove the entire time he was missing. On March 9, Kaleb finally called his mother and told her where he was.

Todd and Walters, of Bartow, were arrested Monday on charges of Interfering with Child Custody and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Todd and Walters told police, they didn't tell anyone where he was, even though they knew he was reported missing, because of a "personal vendetta" against Kaleb's mother.
