Local family, PCSO bids farewell to retired K-9

Polk County, Florida-- Polk County Sheriff's officials and a local family are mourning the loss of a very special retired K-9 this week. The K-9 was given the chance to serve in loving memory of a daughter whose every chance was taken from her years ago.

It's been a decade since the Digget family lost their daughter, Allison Sousa, in a tragic double-homicide.

It was a difficult time for them, but it was because of strong support from Polk County and its law enforcement that they decided to honor her, and thank the community in a big way.

Winter Haven, Florida -- There's something missing from the huge new Polk County Sheriff's Office headquarters complex: snapshots of history.

The sheriff's office wants to display photos of the county's past sheriffs in the lobby of the headquarters building. But there's a problem.

They don't have pictures of 13 of the county's past law enforcement leaders. In addition, two of Polk County's fallen deputies are also missing from their photo archives.

Lake Wales, Florida -- Donate a gently used prom dress to help other girls create wonderful prom memories.

The high cost of a prom gown can be a major barrier between teens and an opportunity for them to attend their prom.

You can take away that barrier and help a young woman make amazing memories by donating a gently used prom dress to the Prom Dress Drive at Eagle Ridge Mall from Feb. 4 - 28.

The mall is asking for gowns that are clean and not more than five years old. All sizes are needed, especially sizes 14-40 -- and both short and long dresses are welcome.
