LPD and WHPD raised over $1,000 for Special Olympics

Lakeland, Florida -- 10 News told you all about local law enforcement's participation in the 'Cops on Donought Shops' last week, and now we have some great news to report!

According to officials, Lakeland and Winter Haven Police officers raised $1,159 for the Special Olympics at the two-morning event, where they sat on the roof of a local Krispy Kreme and dropped buckets down to customers for donations.

Bartow, Florida -- There's a new way to kick off Spring in Bartow, and it's taking place this weekend with the inaugural Azalea Festival.

Inspired by the slogan, "City of Oaks and Azaleas," this year there's a new celebration of spring, families and fun.

The inaugural Azalea Festival is being planned by the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, and will be presented by Spath Jewelers.

Historic Lake Wales Arts Center reopened

Lake Wales, Florida -- Repaired to recapture its original glory, the newly renamed Polk State Historic Lake Wales Arts Center has been officially unveiled.

The beautiful 1927 building had a sagging roof and other maintenance concerns when Polk State College agreed to take it over in 2011.

The center has now been repaired and restored and has opened again for arts education. 

Polk State President Eileen Holden will speak at the event and Polk State Music students will perform. Self-guided tours of the historic building will also be available.

The winding path officially opened this month and takes visitors through some of Florida's vital but disappearing terrain.

Lakeland, FL -  The Child of the Sun Jazz Festival & Urban Triathlon is April 6th at the Lake Mirror Promenade.

It has something for everyone, and organizers say all of the proceeds raised will go toward providing Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for Lakeland Police Department patrol cars.

Lake Wales, Florida -- Head out to Art-B-Cue to be wowed by excellent food and impressive art, along with live music, to kick off the Lake Wales Art Show.

The free event on Friday, March 22nd will spotlight local bands and food, serving as the start of the 42nd Citizens Bank and Trust Lake Wales Art Show.
