Donations needed for Lakeland Police Museum

Lakeland, FL --  Lakeland Police are accepting donations for the police museum.


Curator, Sergeant Gary Gross hopes to continue collecting and preserving Lakeland Police Department history.


Gross is also hoping that members of the community have some old relics they would like to donate to the museum.

Lakeland, FL -- More than 60 celebrity chefs are warming up their ovens and sharpening their knives for the 3rd Annual Cookin' Men fundraiser. 


The chefs, who are business and civic community leaders, will cook up an array of culinary treats, all to benefit the Lakeland Regional Medical Center Foundation's Women in Philanthropy Giving Society.


"We are so excited to host our 3rd Annual Cookin' Men event!  The response over the last two years was so incredible that we had to add even more chefs this year," said Paula Higgins, manager of annual giving and special projects for the LRMC Foundation.

Please bring waders, rubber boots, and/or anoes if you have them available.

Bartow, FL -- If you've got some spare time, and don't need a lot of spare change in return, Bartow Regional Medical Center could use your help.


Officals are looking for part-time volunteer workers to fill some the following positions listed on their website:


"Volunteers can greet patients and help direct visitors in the front lobby, sell items in the Gift Shop, help patients in the admissions process, drive a golf cart picking patients and visitors up at their cars or work with visitors waiting in the Same Day Surgery and Operating Room areas."


Shifts are 4 hours each.

Bartow, FL -- Volunteer Polk, the county's community volunteer center, is working with Polk County Veterans to aid active military.

Today, students ages 14 to 18 will be able to earn hours needed for academic credit by helping "Operation Care and Cheer".

Students will make posters, banners, notes, cookies and other creative objects to be packaged and sent out to members of our active military for Valentine's Day.

The event will take place 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Risk Management Building of the center, located at 2135 Marshall Edwards Dr., in 1st floor conference room.

3 Lakeland High students receive prestigious award

Lakeland, FL -- Three Lakeland High students receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

According to Polk County Schools, Shakondra Brown, Jaylese Driver and Kevin Miller were three of 137 students honored from five Florida schools including Lakeland High. Other schools with students receiving the award were from Kissimmee, Miami, Panama City and Orlando.

Polk Sheriff strips jails' basketball hoops, donates to churches

Bartow, FL -- Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announced his decision to remove a variety of outdoor recreational equipment from Central and South County jails beginning today, after determining that local houses of worship deserve it more than inmates.

"Going to jail is not fun and games. If you want to play basketball, stay out of jail." -Sheriff Grady Judd.

Basketball goals, including backboards, rims, nets, and posts will be taken from the jails and will be given and installed at local churches. The transition began at 1:30 p.m. today at Central County Jail, located at 2390 Bob Phillips Road, Bartow, Florida.
