Keeping Bartow Beautiful

Bartow, FL -- Bartow residents and others are invited to take part in the city's largest community cleanup event.

The Solid Waste Department and Keep Polk County Beautiful are partnering to kick-off the Great American Cleanup, a nationwide cleanup initiative.

The cleanup event has taken place across the country for the past 24 years. Last year, over 300 Bartow citizens and 13 different civic clubs volunteered to join in the cleanup effort.

Lakeland, FL -- The Lakeland Fire Department is teaming up with the Flying Tigers on Thursday, April 14 at Joker Marchant Stadium for the 2nd Annual "Chili Cook-Off".


This year the Flying Tigers are hosting a very fun evening to raise money and awareness for the American Red Cross. Tickets are only $10.00 with proceeds benefitting the American Red Cross Polk and Highlands County Chapter


Kids 3 and under are free; ages 4-12, ticket price is $9.00.

Polk County, Florida -- Accustomed to dealing with smoke and flames while on duty, last February Polk County Fire Rescue firefighters fought a different kind of fire when they participated in the second annual “Flaming Moose” Amateur Backyard Cook Off.

Held at the South Lakeland/Mulberry Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2295, the ‘Polk County Fire Rescue Firewalkers 480’ team, which consists of career and volunteer firefighters, took first place in the rib competition and second place in the chicken cook off.

Polk County event raises thousands for local Red Cross

The American Red Cross Polk and Highlands County Chapter held its annual fundraiser The Red, White, Blues and Soul Bash on Saturday, March 26 at the Lake Mirror Center in Lakeland.

With more than 250 guests in attendance, the Bash was a huge success, surpassing its goal of $30,000 by raising more than $36,000 through ticket sales, live and silent auctions and generous donations.

The Red, White, Blues and Soul Bash immersed guests in a festive blues atmosphere.

Lakeland, FL -- The Lakeland Police will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the 2011 Florida Special Olympics.


This event is scheduled for April 8 at 9:00 a.m.


Runners will begin at 2515 S Florida Ave. and run to 4730 S Florida Ave.

Bartow, FL -- Each Friday in April, Polk County Fire Rescue will take to the streets to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through their signature fundraiser, the "Fill the Boot" drive. 


For more than half a century, members of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) have stood by the MDA, striving to make a difference in the lives of those affected by neuromuscular diseases.

Winter Haven, FL --  The Polk Public Schools Foodservice Department needs your help finding summer recreation programs, camps or childcare sites to participate in its free summer meals program.

The foodservice department provides free, nutritious breakfast and lunch to children in these and other similar programs when school meals are not available during the summer.
