Lake Howard Heights will be offering a drive thru Holiday Breakfast to benefit “The Mission’s Children of the City Christmas gift program.  All proceeds will be used to buy toys for the children who otherwise would not be able to open any gifts this year.

In today’s world of a sagging economy, there is a community-based project that is working well and gaining strength in Polk County.  It’s the KIDPACK Polk Project, now operating in 14 Polk County Public Schools (PCPS) and supplying 237 students with support food every weekend.

Bartow, Florida -- When Bartow first came about, and for many years afterward, the first line of protection was a group of volunteer firefighters who placed their lives on the line for their fellow neighbors.

The City of Bartow Fire Department was established as a volunteer department in 1883.

As the city grew and industry standards got tighter, Bartow's fire department became a full-time group in 2009.

Bartow, FL -- A group of students have not forgotten our troops in Afghanistan in anticipating the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays.

The Summerlin Lacrosse Team, student cadets, and members of America Supporting Americans spent last week assembling care packages for the U.S. Army’s 1st Calvary Unit, Renegade 6 stationed in Afghanistan.  The project was so successful that 65 percent more packages will be shipped to the troops this year than were shipped last year.

“Fill-a-Bag” to benefit Polk’s Hearth Project for homeless students

Polk County, FL -- Polk County Public School’s (PCPS)  Hearth Project kicks off its “Fill-A-Bag” campaign to benefit Polk County public school students who have been identified as homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless.

The Hearth Project, under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act, provides Polk County homeless students with educational stability and assistance.

It’s no fun to be in the hospital during the upcoming holidays, especially if you’re a child. To bring some joy to these patients, elementary students at Lincoln Avenue Academy (LAA) in Lakeland are working on a project which will help put a smile on the face of some of these children who are hospitalized at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa.

Fort Meade Middle/Senior High in Polk County has been chosen as the only traditional school in Central Florida to receive a grant from the Florida’s Natural Growers Foundation for 2011.

Florida’s Natural Growers, comprised of 13 citrus grower organizations, has awarded Fort Meade Middle/Senior High $6,500. The grant will be used in the following manner:
