Winter Haven, Florida - One candle will be lit every night beginning on Sunday evening for each fallen hero at the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office says the department made a pledge in January to return to the Memorial every May to remember the fallen officers.

Instead of another formal ceremony, the Polk County Sheriff's Office decided to honor the fallen heroes in a more personal and informal manner.   The agency will host a "Time of Remembrance and Reflection" at the Sheriff's Office Memorial located at 1891 Jim Keene Boulevard in Winter Haven.

Every evening, beginning Sunday, May 15 through Saturday, May 21, between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., one candle will be lit for each of the fallen heroes and placed at the Memorial.

The Sheriff's Office is inviting the public to visit the memorial at any time during the time period to honor the officers.  The Honor Guard will be laying a wreath at the memorial on the first night.

Stephanie Mier with the Polk County Sheriff's Office says, the "Time of Remembrance and Reflection" will allow everyone to honor our heroes in their own personal way - while providing a symbolic display of our pledge to always remember their ultimate sacrifice. "
