The American Red Cross Polk and Highlands County Chapter held its annual fundraiser The Red, White, Blues and Soul Bash on Saturday, March 26 at the Lake Mirror Center in Lakeland.

With more than 250 guests in attendance, the Bash was a huge success, surpassing its goal of $30,000 by raising more than $36,000 through ticket sales, live and silent auctions and generous donations.

The Red, White, Blues and Soul Bash immersed guests in a festive blues atmosphere.

Veronica Cintron, Bay News 9 Anchor, was the MC for the evening, with live entertainment provided by the Blues Brothers Soul Band.

Guests, many of whom dressed in their Blues Brothers best, enjoyed dinner catered by Texas Cattle Company and participated in live and silent auctions. Don Tompkins, former Polk County Chapter Board Chairman, was honored for his leadership by being the first recipient of the American Red Cross Don Tompkins Visionary Award.

The event was made possible by the generous support of sponsors including Mosaic, Florida’s Natural, Bright House Networks, State Farm Insurance, Mid-State Machine, HD Supply, Southern Salvage, Ground Level, and Hall Communications’ 97 Country, WONN 1230 AM, MAX 98.3 and TALK 1430 WLKF.

Donations received at events like The Red, White, Blues and Soul Bash allow the Red Cross to continue fostering hope in the community and providing relief and support to those affected by disasters.

The Red Cross also continues to provide educational opportunities for those interested in learning how to save a life, as well as emotional support and service to the armed forces. The Red Cross relies on its volunteers and donations from the members of the community in order to make its mission a reality.
