Winter Haven, FL -- If you have a library fine at the Winter Haven Public Library, bring a gift of food and and get it paid off.

In honor of National Library Week and the 'Create your own story at your library' theme, the Winter Haven Public Library will offer the "Food for Fines" program on April 11-16.

"Food for Fines" is an amnesty program providing library patrons with theopportunity to "pay" overdue fines with a donation of non-perishable food to the Salvation Army of East Polk County  in Winter Haven.

Overdue materials may be returned with a non-perishable food item, or outstanding fines owed may be "paid" with a gift of food.

Sample sized items, expired items and pet food will not be accepted.

A contribution of one nonperishable item is equivalent to $2 worth of overdue fines.

Library materials will be accepted no matter how long overdue. This program does not apply to items that are lost or damaged.
