Keeping Bartow Beautiful

Bartow, FL -- Bartow residents and others are invited to take part in the city's largest community cleanup event.

The Solid Waste Department and Keep Polk County Beautiful are partnering to kick-off the Great American Cleanup, a nationwide cleanup initiative.

The cleanup event has taken place across the country for the past 24 years. Last year, over 300 Bartow citizens and 13 different civic clubs volunteered to join in the cleanup effort.

Each year, Bartowans have volunteered to improve their communities by painting over graffiti, picking up litter along our roadways, ponds, parks and neighborhoods to beautify public spaces.

April 18 - 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., retrieve your cleanup zone map, Great American Cleanup T-shirts, gloves, garbage bags, and safety vests from SWD.

The cleanup will take place on April 30.

To participate, download a volunteer packet [PDF], request a packet via e-mail at solidwaste@cityofbartow.net,  pick up a packet from City Hall, the SWD office at 2060 E. Hwy. 60, or contact SWD at (863) 534-0181.

Group captains will distribute T-shirts and supplies to individuals that pre-register; T-shirts should be worn during the clean up event.

This will allow individuals and groups to meet in designated locations to begin the Great American Cleanup work. Supplies are provided by SWD.

Volunteers will work in pre-designated zones from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Volunteers are also invited to Mary Holland Park, Pavilion 16 (by the soccer field) to enjoy a grilled lunch drinks provided by one of our sponsors and the City of Bartow Beautification Board.

If you, your organization, or company can help sponsor this event or help us serve refreshments to over 300 expected volunteers, you're asked to contact the Solid Waste Department at (863) 534-0181.
