Bartow, FL -- Volunteer Polk, the county's community volunteer center, is working with Polk County Veterans to aid active military.

Today, students ages 14 to 18 will be able to earn hours needed for academic credit by helping "Operation Care and Cheer".

Students will make posters, banners, notes, cookies and other creative objects to be packaged and sent out to members of our active military for Valentine's Day.

The event will take place 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Risk Management Building of the center, located at 2135 Marshall Edwards Dr., in 1st floor conference room.

Students are encouraged to bring supplies to add to the donated items being sent to the active military.

Suggested items include but are not limited to: toothpaste, toothbrush, antiperspirant, soap, hygiene products, foot powder, lip balm, sun block, stationary, magazines, toilet paper, phone cards and razors.
