Bartow, Florida -- Servapalooza Polk is coming to to town. Servapalooza Polk is uniting the county in a day of service to provide people the opportunity to make a difference in their community.

The festival, hosted by Volunteer Polk, is Saturday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SUN ’n FUN in Lakeland. Admission is free.

What to Do: Attendees can lend a helping hand in a variety of on-site service projects during the event. The projects provide a great opportunity for students to earn community service hours. Project highlights include:

  • Clifford’s Good Deeds at the Camping World and Magnify Credit Union Story Theater. Clifford himself will take part in the readings and service projects. Camping World and Magnify Credit Union are also giving away 500 free copies of the book, while supplies last.
  • Write letters to military service men and women at the Staples exhibit.
  • Habitat for Humanity is pre-constructing walls for future home constructions.
  • kidsPACK Polk is filling backpacks with food for children in need.
  • Polk County Master Gardeners are providing demonstrations on potting plants.
  • Cornerstone Hospice is making memory books for families in remembrance of their loved ones.

What to See: The Volunteer Expo spotlights more than 80 interactive exhibits of various organizations and community service projects. Food vendors will also be on-site. In the Servapalooza Marketplace, organizations are selling a variety of products including homemade soaps, handmade quilts, plants, cookbooks, art by Thomas Brooks and more. Proceeds benefit participating non-profits. The event features a drive-thru donation collection that is accepting items for participating organizations. Donation categories include: pet supplies, baby items, clothing, crafts, grocery items, school supplies and toys.

Who to Bring: Servapalooza Polk has activities for all ages. Attendees are encouraged to create volunteer teams with co-workers, clubs, family, friends and neighbors to help celebrate community service in Polk. Target and Polk State College currently have the largest teams formed.

“There’s strength in numbers,” Volunteer Polk Manager Janet Bartuska said. “By bringing everyone together for a day of service, we hope to help members of our community in need.” Servapalooza is part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance campaign. “We invite all of Polk County to join us as we remember 9/11 by serving, supporting and celebrating our community at Servapalooza,” said Volunteer Polk Manager Janet Bartuska.
