Lakeland, Florida--  Reading is an activity and ability many of us take for granted. The 27% of Illiterate adults in Polk County need your help, and the Lakeland Public Library presents the opportunity for you to learn to tutor them.

According to a recent release, the Lakeland Public Library will offer a free training workshop to volunteers who would like to teach adults how to read.

The workshop is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 20 from 9:15 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.

The library is located at 100 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland.

No experience is necessary, as the workshop will provide volunteers with  the training and materials necessary to become certified tutors.

The workshop is sponsored by READ Polk, a not-for-profit coalition of volunteers dedicated to facilitating relevant literacy instruction to improve the capacity of adults to negotiate their daily lives as parents, consumers, employees, and citizens. This countywide organization was formed to teach basic reading skills to adults.

You may register for this event by calling 863-797-6253, or emailing cmurphy@readpolk.com by noon on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
