Bartow volunteer firefighters to be honored | Community Spirit
Bartow, FL -- When Bartow first came about, and for many years afterward, the first line of protection was a group of volunteer firefighters who placed their lives on the line for their fellow neighbors.
Now, the public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony for the bronze statue that honors Bartow's volunteer firemen, "The Fireman."
'The Fireman' Dedication will take place Feb. 3, at 3:30 p.m. with guest Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam.
The City of Bartow Fire Department was established as a volunteer department in 1883.
As the city grew and industry standards got tighter, Bartow's fire department became a full-time group in 2009.
Currently, the Fire Department is a combination department consisting of 21 career personnel and 3 active volunteers, covering approximately 95 square miles out of the department's downtown location located at 110 E. Church Street.
