SBDC to host six small business seminars

Bartow, FL -- The Central Florida Development Council’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host six seminars in January to help budding entrepreneurs complete a thorough business plan, start a new business and improve customer service.

Four seminars will be held at the Neil Combee County Administration Building, Room 139 (first floor), 330 West Church Street in Bartow and two seminars will be held at area chambers of commerce.

Steps to Starting a Small Business will be offered 9:30 a.m. – noon on Jan. 4 at the Neil Combee Building.

Mulberry, FL -- Polk County Parks and Recreation needs vendors for the annual Scales and Tails Pet Festival event on Feb. 11, 2012.

Vendors should sell pet-related products or services including, but not limited to: clothing for animals, pet accessories, grooming, animal adoptions, and services such as dog-walking, pet-sitting or obedience training.  Additional vendors featuring general interest crafts will also be approved on a space-available basis.

Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Sherrie B. Nickell, Ed.D. has announced the Superintendent’s Partnership Awards for 2011. 

The awards were for individuals, businesses, civic, faith-based, non-profit and community organizations that provided assistance to schools and school district departments during the 2010-2011 school year.  The partners honored provided a myriad of goods, services, donations, mentoring, tutoring or other assistance and showed exemplary support for students, faculty and or administration during the past school year.

It's just in time to offer shoppers discounts for the holidays.

Shoppers can find great deals and savings to use at new businesses, unique stores and restaurants throughout the Dixieland Community Redevelopment Area.

The Dixieland Holiday Rack Card promotion is a program that is offered to businesses within the Dixieland Community Redevelopment Area at no cost to business owners. LCRA pays for all design and printing costs.

Lakeland, FL -- The Lakeland area is adding a new retailer to its community this week.

On Friday, Nov. 11, Big Lots, North America’s largest broadline closeout retailer, will celebrate its grand opening beginning at 9 a.m. at its newest location in the Village Plaza, at 4212 US Highway 98 North.

The celebration will consist of a ribbon cutting and $2,500 donation to Sleepy Hill Middle School.

Bartow, FL -- On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Bartow-based A-C-T Environmental & Infrastructure held their second annual Chili Cook Off to raise both money and awareness for United Way of Central Florida.  The company said the flavorful event saw a record number of both entries and attendees and raised $811 in 90 minutes.
