Students from five schools represented Polk at the 2011 national leadership conference of the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL). The conference was held June 28 through July 1 in Orlando.

More than 8,000 participants from all over the country attended the national conference to sharpen business skills, network with other attendees and participate in more than 55 business and business-related competitive events.  FBLA-PBL is a business education program in middle and high schools for students to develop vocational and career competencies.

Eric Konkol-Bennett, a Lake Wales resident and Bartow High’s 2011 salutatorian, received a Who’s Who in FBLA award at the national conference. Who’s Who awards are given to FBLA members making outstanding contributions at the local, state and national levels during their FBLA careers.

Annika Mulaney, who most recently attended Lakeland’s Lawton Chiles Middle, won a first place in the middle school division of the financial literacy competition at nationals. Annika, a Lakeland resident,  will be a freshman in 2011-2012 in the International Baccalaureate program at Bartow High.

Kelly McClure, a Haines City resident and 2011 graduate of Davenport’s Ridge Community High competed in the job interview event at nationals. Tiare Leon, a Winter Haven resident and 2011 graduate of Winter Haven High, competed in the data design event at the national conference.

Eric Konkol-Bennett, Emily Lubin, and Bianca Mulaney were among voting delegates for the FBLA southern region in FBLA business that required votes.  Emily and Bianca will be seniors at Bartow International Baccalaureate in 2011-2012. Bianca is from Lakeland while Emily lives in Winter Haven.
