Bartow's Bloomin' Arts Festival is this weekend

Bartow, Fla. -- Bartow's Bloomin' Arts Festival, located in Downtown Bartow, is in it's 41st year.

The event features art vendors, a car show, flower show, quilt show, as well as food vendors and live music.

Information booths for the festival will be located at the corner of Main Street and Central Avenue.

The event takes place March 3 and 4.

This free event is held in collaboration with Race for the Arts.

Lakeland, FL -- After an exhaustive search and formal bid process, ProVenue by Tickets.com has become the official ticketing partner of The Lakeland Center.

The Lakeland Center says the transition to the Tickets.com system will be seamless for ticketholders. Customers will also be able to purchase tickets through The Lakeland Center website www.thelakelandcenter.com, charge by phone 863-834-8111 or in person at the Box Office.

2 Lakeland students light up Fla. Energy Week Essay Contest

Polk County Public School seniors Zoe Lauters and Jared Smith were recently selected as the first place and third place winners respectively in the Florida 2011 Careers in Energy Week Essay Contest, sponsored by the Florida Energy Workforce Consortium (FEWC).

Both Lauters and Smith are students in the Tenoroc High Lakeland Electric Power Academy.  Academy instructor Gary Kiger, says he is very proud of all his students that submitted essays.

Bartow, FL -- If you're feeling lucky, you just might find a hidden gem at the Downtown Bartow Antique Fair this Saturday, Feb. 11 along East Main Street.

The event takes place between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The antique fair is free to the public but if you want to try to sell something, there's a vendor's fee of $15.

Celebrating Black History Month in Bartow

Bartow, FL -- The 12th Annual L.B. Brown Festival takes place in Bartow during Black History month - this Friday through Sunday.

The event, which is held at the L.B. Brown House, features entertainment, education and fun for the whole family.

The yard acoss the street from the historical house is loaded with people selling crafts and food. There will also be games for the children.

PCPS, RSVP, AmeriCorps Reads partner for MLK Day of Service Project

During the week of January 9-13, 2012, Polk County Public Schools, Polk County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Polk County AmeriCorps Reads joined in collaboration for the MLK Day of National Service.  Volunteers, coordinated by Polk County RSVP, read the book “Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Robin Hill School” by Margaret McNamara to Kindergarten students in six Title 1 Elementary Schools in Polk County.
