Bok Tower soothes with moonlight carillon concerts

Lake Wales, Florida -- One of North America's most complex and enchanting musical instruments will fill the night air with music twice in March.

The carillon atop the "Singing Tower" at Bok Tower Gardens is made up of 60 bells. The smallest weighs 16 pounds and the largest is nearly 12 tons.

Using those bells, a musician called a carillonneur will play a stunning hour-long concert in the light of the full moon.

Visitors can relax in the world-famous garden and take in the sights and sounds for only $5 per person. Members get in free.

13th annual L.B. Brown Heritage Festival this weekend

Bartow, Florida -- The L.B. Brown Heritage Festival runs from Friday through Sunday, a few hundred yards away from the Old Courthouse at the grounds of the L.B. Brown House, 470 L.B. Brown Ave. (formerly Second Avenue).

The festival honors the life of Lawrence B. Brown, who was born into slavery and became a prosperous businessman in Bartow.

The two-story, Victorian-style house Brown built in 1892 serves as the hub for the celebration.

Lakeland, Florida-- The 2nd Annual Chalk for Charity Festival is happening in downtown Lakeland this Saturday!

Using chalk and liquid tempera as their medium and pavement as their canvas, professionals and novices will turn the streets of asphalt into an outdoor art display. The exhibitions will be located on Kentucky and Tennessee Avenues. 

The public will be able to purchase tokens to vote for their favorite art with prizes going to the entries receiving the most votes. Additionally, there will be a Professional Award presented.

Polk County Utilities Division Water Conservation Art Contest

Polk Co., FL-- Polk County Utilities Division announced their 2013 Water Conservation Art Contest for all Polk County students enrolled in both publi,c and private schools, in grades K-12.

Competitors are encouraged to create a poster depicting a water conservation idea.

Rosette ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place in each of the thirteen grade categories. All others receive participation ribbons. The blue ribbon winner in each category will be featured in the 2013 Water Conservation Calendar.

Bartow Adult Concert Band

Bartow, FL-- The Bartow Adult Concert Band is back!

The band plays free concerts on Sundays, and their next performance is scheduled for Sunday, January 20.

The show will take place from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the Bartow Civic Center, 2250 S. Floral Ave. Bartow , FL 33830.
