4 Haines City officers under investigation


Haines City, Florida -- Four Haines City Police Department officers are under investigation Wednesday and the police chief tells 10 News they have been for the last two weeks.

The chief would not elaborate on the nature of the investigation, but did say he expects it take another three weeks.


Two children fighting for life following near-drowning


Lakeland, Florida – Two toddlers who nearly drowned in a backyard swimming pool are fighting for their lives.

Both toddlers remain in "very critical condition" at St. Joseph's Hospital, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

The 911 call came in at 6:14 on Friday afternoon stating that the toddlers, a 12- and 24-month-old, were floating face down in a swimming pool at a home on Morning Dove Circle in Lakeland.

Police, deputies respond to Polk school threat


Lakeland, Florida -- Lakeland Police and Polk County Sheriff's deputies are on the campus of Sleepy Hill Middle School, after the school received a threat on Wednesday.

Police say the school received a handwritten note from an unknown person that stated they were going to kill themselves with a handgun Thursday on Sleepy Hill's campus.

Mutilated cats found in Polk Co. killed by animal


Lakeland, Florida -- Two cats that were previously believed to have been killed by a knife or other sharp object in Lakeland were actually killed by a predatory animal, according to police.

Polk County, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff's deputies nabbed 101 suspects in three days, among them an alleged drug user, car thief, and identity stealer. Deputies say your streets are safer for it. But do you think it's really making a difference?

PETA offers reward for finding Lakeland cat killer


Lakeland, Florida -- After tree cats were found cut in half in Polk County, PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these crimes.

Investigators do not think an animal such as a coyote caused the injuries, because the cut incisions appear deliberate and precise. They are going door-to-door questioning neighbors, but so far no one has been arrested.
